Stress is something that we all experience. Whether it’s good stress or bad stress, we all need to find a way to cope and live with it. Which sometimes can be easier said than done!
There are times when stress spirals into an unending loop of mind chatter. At other times it can lead to heightened anxiety. So what can you do when this is happening?
You can create and use your own personalized Stress Relief Toolkit. How can a toolkit like this help?
It can bring you back to the present moment. Right here. Right now.
Your mind isn't thinking about the past. It isn’t worrying about the future, or thinking about what's going to happen 10 minutes from now. The tool that you’re using becomes a 'pattern interrupt.'It turns off the mind chatter - even if only for the time you're using it. It can also be helpful when your mind is swirling with ideas or feeling overwhelmed by everything that you need to do.
Doing one of these activities can create a quieting of the mind so that you come back to the challenge with clearer thinking. Here are some ideas to get you started:
* meditation
* yoga nidra
* qigong, yoga
* puzzles
* colouring
* reading for fun - not learning
* any hobby that you become totally immersed in
* any physical activity that also puts you into an immersive flow
* spending time in nature
* going for a walk
Once you decide on the ‘tools’ you think will work best for you, it may be helpful to write a list and have any necessary items readily available. Keep it handy or easily in sight as a reminder to use it.
What will you put in your Stress Relief Toolkit?
I’ll see you on the path.
